Cold, flu, sore throat or severe allergies

• Deferred for 5-days.
• Donors who have a headache at time of donation are deferred for 1-day.

Pregnancy
OK to donate 6 weeks after end of pregnancy.

Ear Piercing
Ear piercing performed by "gun" technique is acceptable after healing.

Tattoo/Body Piercing
Defer 12-months from day of tattoo/body piercing.

Surgery
Defer until healing is complete, and normal activities are resumed and released by physician.

Last Blood Donation

• Whole blood donor's 56-day deferral.
• Plateletpheresis donors may donate every 7-days or up to 24-times per year.
• Double red cell donations, 16-week deferral.

Blood Transfusion or Tissue Transplant
None in the past year.

Malaria
Travel to malarial areas defer for 1-year after departure.
Defer immigrants, refugees, citizens or residents of malarial areas for 3-years after departure.
